Sustainability Policy
Design that connects us
At Mima, we believe that collective action is essential in achieving our sustainability goals. Together, we strive to innovate, adapt, and lead the way toward a more sustainable future for generations to come.

Mima are committed to supporting a collective move to net zero as fast as possible and have pledged to help the UK sectors in this ambitious endeavour. We recognise the urgency of addressing climate change and are dedicated to playing our part in reducing carbon emissions. As part of our commitment to sustainability, we have environmental responsibilities that cover our premises and transport, aimed at minimising carbon emissions. However, we understand that achieving our sustainability goals requires continuous innovation and adaptation.
We have supported our in-house Sustainability Lead through an accredited Sustainability Leadership course with Imperial College London to embed this thinking internally and externally with clients across multiple sectors (including aviation, rail, healthcare, culture and heritage, and the built environment). Furthermore, we encourage our employees to actively participate in our sustainability initiatives. We encourage them to minimise energy consumption, reduce waste, and make eco-friendly choices in their home offices. Additionally, we regularly share the latest trends, information, and updates regarding sustainability through channels such as our weekly company meeting and a dedicated Sustainability channel.
Mima is a certified B Corporation™
In July 2024, we became a B Corporation certified business, further solidifying our commitment to environmental stewardship and social responsibility. This certification aligns with our values and underscores our dedication to making a positive impact on the planet and society.
Certified B Corporations are companies verified by B Lab to meet high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. B Lab is the network transforming the global economy to benefit all people, communities, and the planet.
This certification aligns perfectly with our ethos at Mima, where we believe that design should serve everyone and contribute to a sustainable and equitable world.

Mima's approach to Environmental Responsibility
- We endeavour to make efficient use of natural resources by minimising waste and conserving energy.
- We prioritise the selection of environmentally responsible suppliers for office stationery and supplies, fostering a corporate ethos that encourages staff members to conscientiously consider the utilisation of raw materials.
We utilise an office space at Second Home Spitalfields that uses a 100% renewable electricity tariff. Second Home is B Corporation certified and maximises the use of plants in the office as carbon sinks and biophilia. - The office cleaning company is Nuserve, they are also B Corporation certified and a London living wage employer - the products used are environmentally friendly and non-toxic. Regarding printing, we use a leased product on the greenest tariff, with replacement cartridges being removed and recycled by the company Vine Street Solutions.
- We also use First Mile to dispose of our waste (also a B Corp).. First Mile have a zero-to-landfill policy and try to ensure as much as possible is sorted and sent to recycling at their award-winning facility. Anything left over is sent to generate green energy rather than going to landfill.
Mima is committed to achieving Net Zero by 2050.
We have calculated our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions for 2023 (baseline) are currently in the process of calculating our Scope 3 emissions.
Mima Scope 1 emissions for 2023 = 51.77 kg CO2e per year
Mima Scope 2 emissions for 2023 ≈1,655.700 kg CO2e.
In 2024, we successfully reduced our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions compared to our baseline year:
Mima Scope 1 emissions for 2024 = 41.00 kg CO2e per year
Mima Scope 2 emissions for 2024 ≈996.00 kg CO2e.
Our sustainability roadmap plan outlines a comprehensive strategy to reduce emissions and their negative impacts. This includes implementing a robust data tracking system, categorising emissions into Scope 1-3, and setting SMART targets aligned with UK sustainability goals. Our emissions accounting follows recognised protocols, with a focus on the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard and ISO 14064-1.
We aim to have this validated with the Seedling platform in the coming year (together with calculating our Scope 3 emissions). This will ensure a standardised and transparent approach to calculating, monitoring, and reporting our greenhouse gas emissions.
Mima's approach to Social Responsibility
- We live by the motto "Nothing about us, without us," actively collaborating with lived experience experts to create truly equitable experiences. Our in-house accessibility and inclusive design team is composed of disabled and neurodivergent individuals.
- We have moved areas of our business away from London and engage with communities in other parts of the UK. Our team is based throughout the UK.
- We are building a student placement program, offering learning opportunities to those in design education.
- Our volunteering policy provides staff with paid time off to support projects for social good. By participating in volunteer activities, the Mima team can develop meaningful connections, strengthen their local communities, and improve the quality of life for those around them. We are tracking the number of hours each participant has volunteered annually and see how that progresses over time. We gather feedback from employees about their experiences and the societal impact that they feel they have made and track thisMima's approach to Governance Responsibility.
Mima's approach to Governance Responsibility
- Mima's governance is driven by a strong commitment to social responsibility, and it is integrated into various aspects of our decision-making process.
- Mima focuses on specific positive social impacts, such as inequality, well-being and sustainable economic development. To ensure that social and environmental issues remain a priority, Mima conducts specific, formal training for new and ongoing employees and managers.
- The board of directors reviews key performance indicators related to the company's social and environmental performance regularly. We have a formal organisational chart outlining the management and reporting structure, along with written job descriptions for all employees, outlining their responsibilities and decision-making authority.
- We hold management team meetings to plan strategies and make operational decisions.
- We have a written Code of Ethics, which is communicated to all newly hired workers, and updates to the Code are communicated whenever necessary.
